VMS V17.1, Control Center Service, Use Substream FIFO - 20190314
Question:
How does "Use Substream FIFO" in Control Center Service work? How should user use it in different environments?
Answer:
Use Substream FIFO : Substream will be bypassed to Control Center directly without any video compression. Which means the video quality will not be affected, yet the bandwidth usage will be increased.
1. Disable FIFO (default setting) : It is recommended when using internet connection or limited bandwidth environment. The numbers of connection will depends on VMS's CPU usage.
- Advantage : Lower bandwidth usage and PC loading on ERM/Control Center PC.
- Disadvantage : Higher CPU loading on VMS, depends on the amount of Control Center/ERM. Video quality is worse and has higher possibility to drop frame.
2. Enable FIFO : It is recommended when using local LAN. The numbers of connection will depends on VMS's PC loading and network bandwidth.
- Advantage : Better video quality on ERM/Control Center.
- Disadvantage : Higher bandwidth usage and PC loading on ERM/Control Center PC.
3. Multicast : For local LAN user that needs fixed stream(single stream). Supports VMSv17.1+Control Center v3.5, GV-ERM for Windows is not supported. The numbers of connection will depends on VMS's PC loading and network bandwidth.
- Advantage : Better video quality on Control Center.
- Disadvantage : Higher bandwidth usage, and user can only use Mainstream or Subsream.
All in all, if user needs better video quality and has sufficient bandwidth, it is suggested to enable Use Substream FIFO. However, if user needs the live view to be as fluent as possible, please do not enable Use Substream FIFO.
NOTE : It is not recommended to connect one VMS to more Control Center/CMS. If this is a must, it is recommended to enable Use Substream FIFO.
