Video Surveillance Systems in Utah

Utah is a state in the western United States. The current estimated population is 2,942,902 and the capital and most populous city is Salt Lake City. The land where Utah now sits was once inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Fremont and Navajo tribes. Europeans did not reach the area until 1540 when Spanish explorers made their way to what is today southern Utah. In 1821 the region including Utah was known as Alta California and was under Mexican control. Fur traders established some trading posts in the area during this time. The Great Salt Lake was discovered in 1824 and became a popular stop for people travelling from the eastern US to the west. Brigham Young brought his band of Mormons to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 to escape conflict with their neighbors in Illinois. Thousands of Mormons settled in the region in hopes of escaping religious persecution. The region was transferred from Mexican to US control at the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848. The Utah Territory was organized in 1850. Conflicts arose between the US government and the Mormon inhabitants over their polygamous practices. Minerals were discovered in the territory in the 1860s, bringing many non-Mormon settlers to the area. A war erupted between the Mormon settlers and the Native American tribes, known as Utah’s Black Hawk War, in 1865. Federal troops had to be sent in to quell the fighting. In 1869 the railroad reached the territory, bringing in many new settlers and businesses to the area. When Mormon leaders in Utah agreed to ban polygamy, Utah was granted statehood. Utah became the 45th state in 1896. The natural beauty of the state has made it a popular destination for tourism.
