Video Surveillance Systems in Tennessee

Tennessee is a state in the southeast United States. The current estimated population is 6,495,978. The capital is Nashville and Memphis is the most populous city. The land was inhabited by the Muscogee, Yuchi and Cherokee people until European settlement displaced them. British settlers began to come to the region in the mid-1700s. The area that is now known as Tennessee was originally part of North Carolina until the territory was ceded to the federal government in 1790. Tennessee became a state in 1796, the 16th state admitted to the Union. Between 1838 and 1839 Cherokee tribes were uprooted from their land in Tennessee and forced to emigrate to designated lands west of Arkansas. This and other similar events became known as the “Trail of Tears.” During the Civil War, Tennessee voters initially opposed seceding from the Union until ultimately becoming the final state to secede from the Union in 1861. Many battles were fought in Tennessee with Union forces winning most. The state was largely under Union control by 1864. After the war, Tennessee was the first state to rejoin the Union. Despite the abolition of slavery in 1865, Tennessee continued to pass Jim Crow laws that imposed segregation of African-Americans. During the Great Depression the federal government created the Tennessee Valley Authority which became the largest public utility supplier in the country. Electrical power supplied by TVA remains one of the largest outputs in the state along with cotton, textiles and cattle. Many corporations have headquarters in Tennessee including FedEx, AutoZone, International Paper, Regal Entertainment Group and Caterpillar Financial. In 2012 Tennessee was one of only eight states to report a surplus in their budget. The state also has an important music history and many consider Memphis to be the birthplace of the blues. Sun Records, which discovered Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison, is located in Memphis. Nashville is considered to be the home of country music and is the location of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Graceland, Elvis’ home in Memphis, is a major tourist attraction in the state as is Dollywood, the Jack Daniel’s Distillery and the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Tennessee is also home to many colleges and universities including top-tier universities Rhodes College and Vanderbilt University.

Tennessee is considered to be among the 10 most dangerous states in the country. Both violent crime and property crime rates are above the national average. In 2009 and 2010, Tennessee had the highest rate of gun violence in the country and the 5th highest rate of robbery. Four Tennessee cities are among the most dangerous cities in the country: Knoxville, Nashville, Jackson and Memphis. No Tennessee cities are considered to be among the safest in the country. The chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in Tennessee is 1 in 155 and of property crime is 1 in 30. Both these rates are above the national average. Residents of Tennessee can protect themselves from crime by installing surveillance systems in their homes and businesses. Surveillance systems are known to deter crime and can help lower crime rates overall. For a state with such high crime rates it is important that residents protect themselves and their property. Surveillance systems can be used in homes, offices, retail stores, restaurants, museums and many other locations.
