Video Surveillance Systems in Florida

Florida is the most southeastern state in the United States. With a population of 19,552,860 it is the fourth most populous state. Florida was the first part of what is now the US to be visited by Europeans. After being founded by Ponce De Leon in 1513, Great Britain gained control of Florida in 1763 and it later became the 27th state admitted to the United States in 1845. The state capital is Tallahassee and the largest city is Jacksonville, both in north Florida. The state is known for its beaches and has the longest coastline in the US. The Florida Everglades are home to many plants and animals including alligators, crocodiles, panthers and 3,000 different types of wildflowers. Other attractions include theme parks such as Disney World and Universal Orlando as well as the Kennedy Space Center. The state has a warm, tropical climate and much of the coastal areas are prone to hurricanes. The population is diverse and there is a large population of Cuban-Americans in the Miami area. Government and military are the biggest employers in the state and the school boards employs about 1 out of every 30 workers in the state. Agriculture is the second largest industry in the state and it is a large exporter of citrus fruit.

Crime continues to be an issue in Florida. In 2009 it was ranked the 5th most dangerous state. As of 2013, 11 of the of Nation’s 100 most dangerous cities are in Florida including Pompano Beach, Miami and Orlando. No other state has as many dangerous cities as Florida. The chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in Florida is 1 in 205 and of property crime is 1 in 31. These rates are higher than the national average. The reason for Florida’s high crime rate is not expressly known and the most dangerous cities are spread out evenly across the entire state. One approach to lowering the crime rates, especially the rate of property crime, would be to have residents install surveillance systems in their homes and businesses. Properties with surveillance systems often experience less crime than those without and they can aid police in capturing criminals.
